Encuentro de Las Cruces  [date]

To General ------, Headquarters:

I have the honor to inform you that the exploration section of La Caballeria Morazanica which I am commanding captured in the road going to Telpaneca to San Juan de Segovia Miss Dolores Matamoros and Virginia Tercero which were going to El Chipote carrying correspondence to the enemy which is at Telpaneca.  The exploration section with all consideration brought these ladies to my person for identification.  With all respect we have received them, giving them all kinds of guarantees as if they were of our own party.  We asked them what they were doing with this letter sent by the North American Roy A. Johnston which they delivered to me as soon as they got there and I told them to stop right there because there was danger when they saw the enemy.  At this moment at 4:15 p.m. the mail carrier is leaving and I am waiting at Encuentro de Las Cruces for the answer.  The ladies are given consideration according to their sex.  No more news and awaiting your orders,

General ------ and Colonel -----:

The persons who have come are Lola Matamoros and Virginia Tercero, who are undoubtedly our best political friends.  These women bring a letter from whose signatures I cannot even read as it is written in pencil with crooked lines, for which I doubt it and tore it as supicious because it might have been, and that way no one can do anything with me.  The letter said that he was not an American and only wanted to have a conference with me at the place we would say.

My answer will be this:  to accept conferences I would have done it when the traitor Moncada did it and because you were ot an American makes no difference, because in our attitude we have no resolution but to die or conquer and we do not permit conferences with anyone while the invadors are despoiling our soil.

General, more or less in those terms should you answer the letter and I beg you to make the letter tonight so we can type it tomorrow.  I will take all the precautions of the case.  They would not sell us but they could bring a poison without knowing which has not done any harm either.

El Chipote  [date]

Short details of the battle of San Pedro on the fifth with the Yankee buccaneers.  At these moments when I am writing a runner arrives from the field of battle giving me the good news of the triumph reached by our forces and bringing me at the same time four Yankee prisoners who were automatic riflemen who surrendered to save their lives.  Their provision train consists of thirty loaded bullcart trains and it is believed the majority of it is ammunition, because only those have been seen which were opened from curiosity.  Later I will give you more information of this triumph.

We are also preparing ourselves to defend ourselves from a formidable battle which the enemy is trying to force:  because they say it is possible they will put 4,000 men on our front and twelve airplanes of the latest models which are already in Corinto and which have a capacity of 25 persons, will cooperate.  I prepare myself, without bothering about their numbers, because I well know that they are one of the powers of the world, but our patriot hearts do not measure nor care about the greatness of others and only want to fulfill  the duty that honor and shame impose.

Conference Mentioned By One of the Yankee Chiefs Supporting the Defense of the Independence of Nicaragua.

El Chipote  [date]

To ------, Tegucigalpa.

Dear teacher and friend:

For your convenience and true friend of independence and liberty for the weak, I send you authentic correspondence that the invader sent me so that you will know the answer I give them.  No comments are necessary.  The Yankee felon reveals himself for what he is.  The slaves would accept this as a good bath of roses but in my blood is Indian traces with great determination and indignation.  I give you thanks for your attention and always accept my sincere appreciation for the Army in Defense of Nicaragua and my own,

Esteemed friend:

I am thinking of leaving for Jinotega day after tomorrow.  If you have any bad news please send it to me so that I may know whether to go or not.  And if there is anything that I can offer, you only have to let me know.  From Chipote it is almost impossible to communicate with you.  If anything new arises, let me know.

El Chipote, [date]  -------,

Jinotega.

I have seen the order that you sent to our authorities of Yali in order that they hold elections for local authorities.  I must tell you that in order to accomplish this, it will be necessary that you and the rest of the mercenaries who are in the Campo de Marte, take the lead of an army and come and disarm me, as otherwise, you have no right to give such orders.  If you so eagerly wish to master this zone, you should hold your rifle so that you would realize how the genuine sons of my country defend the national honor.  You are a coward, and you prove it by having joined to the traitor, Adolfo Diaz.  Do not believe that you are safe.  You will soon hear the first bombs in the suburbs of Jinotega, and that will be the true notice that your end is near.  Traitors have no right to life.  Coward!!  Mercenary!!
