General -------.
If Captain Centeno is there, send
him to me with ten men more because with the patrol I sent toward
Panali. I just received a warning from San Rafael from my own wife
that 100 Constabularies are coming by that way and I want to send
Centeno with other men. Tell him to come ready to leave. I believe
General Montoya has in his power all that the Yankees were bringing
from Ocotal.

Lt. Col --------. Dear Colonel:
I inform you that
Major Maradiaga attacked the trenches and more than 30 machos were
killed and several of them wounded; and some machos who came to
Quilali were routed and went away. Colonel Estrada attacked them in
Buena Vista. He attacked those coming from Telpaneca; so be careful
because my chief says that the bombs you have will be enough and
greets you and your companions; and trusts that you will do
something against the machos. In yesterday's combat we had no
casualties thanks to God.
Receive our appreciations.

Themes in Respect to the Candidates.
That the
populace would not let itself be fooled again by Moncada. That
Nicaragua has been capacitated to direct the destinies of the nation
without the necessity of confiding in Moncada, who has several times
proved himself to be a traitor. That we will back no caudillo who
proclaims himself, because then we would be in danger of
dictatorship, and we permit ourselves to invite the public to
meditate well in electing their candidates, and that they choose men
who can defend with loyalty the principles of our credo and the
interests of the country in general. That they can fix their looks
on patriotic personalities, such as the gentlemen: Dr. Escolastico
Lara, don Sofonias Salvatierra, and others of the type.

General, today I cannot
come to your outpost because I am very busy. I have been thinking
that if you are going to Sacasa we will need money for the trip, and
I do not know where to get it but at any rate we will do what is
possible for you to go because it is urgent that they know that we
hardly have elements to continue the fight and that we will never be
dismayed.

Dear Sirs:
I have the honor of answering your
communication dated the 27th of last December. I cannot accept the
conference that you propose in your letter. I wonder because you
offer me guarantees when I am an outlaw, furthermore, it is up to us
to give guarantees since we are the genuine sons of Nicaragua. We
shall comply with what we have said before: that we will not retire
because as long as the punitive Yankees are in our territory, we
shall always hold to arms. In the moment that I am answering your
letter we are looking at the burning of the town of Quilali done by
the pirate Yankees. Oh! Damned flesh that shall have its reward !
