Quesada, Major

Tell General Echevarria to give you the men that he can spare because last night the Yankees reached Zapotillal.  I am sorry that you did not take greater action to look for those aviators.  If you do not feel disposed I will wait for you at Maradiaga's outpost.

To El Zapotillal.

Complying with the superior order, and knowing that you have stayed there to collect provisions and I know that you have dulce, handed over to Santos Garcia because tomorrow we are going to the camp of General Sandino's with the dulce which he asked me for and some loaves (of sugar) will remain here in the hands of some sick men who the General sent over to give them the correspondence backing while they get better from their sickness.  Some boys from Encino will come there to help you in the work at the mill.

General -------, His Camp.

I am giving orders to send you a beef for you to slaughter.  Send some meat to outpost number five (5) which is Salgado's and outpost number six (6) which is the staff, and go on to occupy the house of Senores Rizo because that is the best place for you to stay while we gather provisions, and begin to make the camp in the place indicated yesterday.  You will remain in that place with all activity, on hearing a whistle you will take the position on the hill, and meanwhile you can make holes where the boys can dig in and have the least danger possible.

Sr Lt. ------  La Majada.

Dear Friend:

I arrived at your post desiring to talk with you to communicate to you the good news given by the General who says to us to have a good resolution to attack the machos if we have a chance to surprise them.  The Juez de Mesta of Barillal with six bombs and a few rifles attacked 160 machos and caused them four casualties and some wounded, defeating the rest.  You know that with courage everything is possible.  The combat of the 1st of the current month was won by our forces and the enemy was defeated entirely, leaving more than 50 dead outside of the wounded.  We took a large amount of ammunition, machine guns and 600 bombs of the kind they use from them.  We had only two men wounded but their wounds are slight thanks to God.  I think that our columns fought today, but I am not sure; the Jefes think so, but the columns have not reported anything, we await details.  I greet you and your companions,

Patria y Libertad

7.5 feet long, 3 wide, 4.5 feet long, 4 red and 3 white on the blue field of 48 stars.  Blue square of 3 ft. by 2 feet 4 inches.  We conserve as a trophy of the battle of Las Cruces a flag of the great nation of the US of NA, which was grabbed by one of our brave heroes from the hands of a Yankee, at the moment when said Yankee was fleeing shamefully through the bushes of our mountains.  The flag is composed of three colors, red, white, and blue.  It measures 7.5 feet long by 4.5 wide.  It has six white bars and 7 red, but the six white ones are 3 long and 3 short: the red ones are 3 long and 4 short. On the blue field there are 48 stars.

General Echevarria:  I do not believe you need to be so minute for that, but I do it so that you may have sufficient data.

Send me the Revista Ariel and the papers which you have read because I want to send them to Esteli with little Molina.  Patria y Libertad  /s/   It is better to make propaganda than to store things that have already been said or felt.  I am sending two pairs shoes, one for you and the other for Tellez.  Maradiaga has not sent me the provisions and the merchandise brought by Molina is rough clothing and boxes, Camel cigarettes.

I received your commentaries on the battle of Las Cruces and as I had already made another in the form, which I sent to the different neighborhoods of the mountain, I will try to copy yours as war correspondent, but with certain changes, such as their numbers and the place where it took place.  I will always send mine too, and I am sending it to you for corrections for the press.  You can correct the same original.

Manifesto

Stronghold of the Defenders of the National Sovereignty of Nicaragua, Decree No. 19.

Augusto C. Sandino, General in Chief of the Autonomist Army of Nicaragua to the Nicaraguan people and the Governments of the other sister Republics makes known:

That if the Autonomist Army constituted a powerful military institution, perfectly organized which rests the honor of the Republic, in use of the faculties conceded by the same army; recognizes and accepts in the frathernal sense as brothers in the same Isthmus, the Union Central Americana, broken and interrupted by the Yankee Buccaneers, recognizing at the same time the constitution named by the same Union.

On making it known to my compatriots and Governments of the five Republics; it is with the object of making felt our spiritualism as fostered brothers of the same section and in the same way to name our legal representatives in each of the sections of the Isthmus.

Bocay, January 4, 1928.

Dear Don Abram,

I received letters from my uncle written on the 25th of December, from the foot of curious.  He gave me the glad news that Lewis was alive and well.  Some one of his mozos came and told him that they had left Lewis in Bilway about the 10th of Dec., that he was awfully thin, owing to his illness, but was then entirely better.  Don Abram poor old Don Marcelino was killed here on the 30th of December.  Manzanans was down at Modesto's place, raising hell with everybody.  Marcelino went to bring up Modesto, when Manzanans jumped on him, wounding him in several places.   Marelino shot him, and returning his wounds with his machete, as it was dark no one could interfere.  When a light was lit both of them were dead.  Marcelino had his left bust split open.

Be good to yourself father Abraham, and come quick.  Miguel is here but will be leaving again on the 15th.  Everybody sends their best regards.

Your friend as ever,

Kindly Father-in-law:

Today I received the answer for General Feland, there is hope for Augusto to surrender, these communications are private.  I believe there will be more conferences in my home soon, pray to God, Augusto told me to let you know about this and also to his mother Sra. Margarita, so she will console herself.  I am very glad, because there will be no more blood spilled, thank the Lord for that, and we will be in peace, they all tell me that they cannot write because they don't have time, but they will write at the first opportunity.

Warmest greetings to Sra Margarita and America and my mother-in-law and the rest of the family.

Very Kindly, I am of Yours,
