General --------, His outpost.

I received information that a patrol that left yesterday from that outpost came to the house of Nicolas Olivera and took everything he had, even some money.  This man is serving us and has sacrificed himself.  You should tell them that in that place all the inhabitants serve us and for that reason it is not acceptable to bother them in any way.  When you want cattle you can go and get it at Juan Zamora's because there we have cattle.  So that you must not permit them to molest anyone because we should not give a bad example nor do the same as the Cachurecos.

GeneraI --------:

I am already sending the notice for all men to occupy their positions, at four in the morning and you also shall be ready at that hour.  I would like you to resolve to come because luckily there are men with which to defend the mountain, and I have faith in God who will give us the triumph.  I hardly believe it is the enemy but we have to be ready.

Camp No. 6, [date]

Sr Lt ------, San Jose.

My dear correligionario

I hope you are in good health in union with your companions.  I further desire to ask you to exempt from the Guard service senor Jose Vilquaz, because these men bring foodstuffs daily to this camp.  You may ask for your foodstuffs from the Juez de Mesta who is obliged to send them directly to your camp in accordance with a General Order of this Command.  I hope you help me in this matter.  Your affectionate amigo y compañero

Dear Friend:

My best regards to you and your companions.  After that I order you to post a sentry in the place you occupied first during the day, to have a close watch over all the entrances of the roads; and during the night he must occupy the interior place, because it is better in case of needing to go out on horse.  Affectionately yours,

Dear companion and friend:

I received your letter stating that you cannot find a place to get salt for the food of those under your command; and that you wish I furnish it to you.  I have no salt here, we are eating the meat without any salt because it has not been possible to get any for us, for the enemy is in front, and that is the reason why nobody brings anything for us, but be patient and when we get some we will send some to you.  I greet you and your companions,

As soon as you receive this letter inspect all that line and that of San Albino, to find out which is the route or true direction being followed by the machos, and report any news regarding the control of our camp and fortress; and as soon as you know the reality, come or submit a report to this command immediately.
