August 1927. Sandino to Manuel & Antonio Lopez.

Sandino
Echevarria, Manuel, and Antonio Lopez
General ------- and Colonel ---------.
I beg you to be ready tonight because the enemy is at Suscayan and it is
not known whether they are going to San Albino or Ciudad Sandino, that
is why I beg you to be on the alert so that we may not be caught like
Navarro and Sanchez who let themselves be surprised. I am here to
maneuver better and everything is ready in Ciudad Sandino.

Abraham Rivera.
Dear little brother:
I have received your little letters you have
sent me and also the money for the coffee and for a dress. Alfredo
gave me $4 more, he said you saw them on the road. Marrita is
well, goes to school every day and the teacher says she behaves well.
Chepita says she had found out from Rafael that he now ought to be in La
Ceiba, Honduras. My father has been sick with more 'miguillas' in
the arm; I see my papa more afflicted every day, I don't know why this
is done to me but it seems that the same will happen as occurred with my
little mother.
God grant that you have been well and that you will
return soon. Antonio has given aid to help you from your
difficulties and not be late in reuturning. Alfredo gave me two
pieces of cashmere for my father. I want to see if he will have it
made these days.
God has blessed you for your good sentiments.
Manuel works in the shoeshops of Pancho, God wants him to learn
something that will serve him later.
We all, all embrace you with
love and affection,

To my son Abraham M. Rivera, Bocay:
[GN note: 'Mourning card bearing
name of Dolores Rivera and the following message':]
Dear Son:
Luisita and I are a little
ill, lightly. In respect to Sandino's war there is nothing more;
some say he is now in Chipote, and others that he has gone away. I
suppose we will see bye and bye.

Last night I
sent forty rifles to Chipote and ammunition that they themselves had
brought, same as a machine gun. I have everything mined and I am
only waiting for them so that after the mines explode, attack them from
the flanks and take the town anew. I hope that you are also ready
to attack them. Do not forget to ruin the powder in the mines.
The bandits are in the same place that they were yesterday and I expect
them to come today at 2 p.m. They may come but we will give
ourselves the pleasure of raising them with the mines.

General -------.
Last night I sent
20 men at the command of Colonel Irias so that if the Machos or Cachos
are in Murra, they will try to take the heights and not leave them get
out while the reinforcements of 30 men arrive with a machine gun, which
I will send today at 8 am by way of Las Flores which is the road where
Salgado is. Tell Perez and Salgado to get ready immediately to go
out with Fernando Maradiaga, Quintero, and his father. I will come
there to send the patrol from there. I am leaving now. I
hope that God will will that they are machos to have the satisfaction of
shitting on them because it is certain that they are confident and cocky
because nothing has been done to them but now they will be victims in
these mountains because even if the men should run I am sufficient with
ten men who have patriot blood. Triumph is ours.

Moncada, Jose Maria
Salgado, Carlos
Dear General -------.
I am here to
have a conference with you over the best manner of pacifying this
department which is suffering from the horrors of war. I am
authorized by the American command. I have trusted their word
because they guarded from Teustepe to Tipitapa and afterward to Managua.
They kept their word, guarding my person from the attacks of our
adversaries. I have come to have great trust in them. Name a
place in Ocotal for our interview. Bring your staff and whoever
you may think appropriate. From here we will go to a separate
place where we can converse. Do not forget the suffering of our
friends and families. Have faith in our triumph.

Sandino
Echevarria, Manuel
General -------.
Colonel Irias met
the enemy at Murra and one of the boys came with a small scratch and
said that the Colonel went to place another ambush further ahead because
the Machos came out happy, I believe that on finding out that the boys
were on the hills, they must have tried to take the hills, and the boys
must have gotten scared and disoccupied the heights. It must have
been Quintero, and I believe he can do something unless the Yankees have
gone to Ciudad Sandino.
There are eighteen Constabularies and the
Colonel has twenty, but I believe that the position which they tried to
take was occupied by only five. Estrada is here and I sent him
fifty men with two machine-guns because the other gunner already
arrived. I want you to be the chief of this patrol for your
greater success, and I will send Don Coronado who is there organizing,
and if I can't send him I will send another one, but it must be right
away.
