August 1927. Carlos Salgado to My Compatriots.

Salgado, Carlos
My Compatriots
To my Compatriots:
The shameless
imposition that the traitor Moncada tried to impose on those who far
from personal ambition and full of faith enlisted with all ardor in the
Liberal Army to defend the constitutionality of Dr. Juan Bautizta Sacasa
rasps the nerves and hurts the humble.
I belong that class of men
who ignore perversity in a political sense because I disowned such proceedings. For that reason when I enrolled in the Liberal Army I
swore to defend with loyalty and patriotism the motto which it embodies.
It is for this reason that after having seen what the press had to say I
want to prove to my compatriots the cause for which I am in arms and
will continue in arms.
First, I am a liberal by conscience
and not for gain or privileges.
Second, I am loyal to my
principles because military honor demands it in my humble conception.
Third, I do not admit order or disposition of any but a legitimate
patriot who with his attitude demonstrates that he is defending the
decorum of the Homeland and of the Party.
For the same reason as
the usurping traitors and invaders do not represent legitimacy before
the majority of my homeland, I renege and will continue with the
followers of General Augusto Sandino as chief of said collectivity,
because it is he whom in these moments represents the legality of the
sons of Nicaragua.
It is for that reason that I am a Sandinista.
My enemies will judge this attitude contrary to his desires, although
they be good, but history will judge our conduct and justify the actions
caused by the political harlequins - - -

To Sr. Alcalde Muncipal --------, San Juan de Segovia.
Dear Friend:
From your note of the 24th instant I am informed of the routes taken by
the bandits and I am very happy because of your great activity. I
notify you that very soon I will send my cavalries in persecution of
these bands until they fall in our hands and we apply the punishment
that they deserve.
I have also received the communications from Daraili and I am sending you a little note so that you in turn make it
reach its destination. Our activities at these moments are always
deserving of the greatest compliments, and in a very short time our
adversaries will see and feel the rude blows of our patriot labors.
Do not be dismayed but on the contrary, fill your chest with patriotic
ardor and let us await the developments that will come from my
communications. Do not be surprised at anything. Watch, that
God and our country will reward you because divine and terrestrial
justice are on our side, as you will see very soon our airships at the
latest in a few months, really a very short time.
In the meantime
let us watch for the supreme hour of felicity of our beloved Nicaragua
because her noble sons will heal her barbarous wounds given by the
traitors and Yankee Filibusters. Patience and faith and triumph.
Your friend and companion salutes you.

no podre entregar nada.

pais.

Quilali.
Dear friends and companions.
Invested with the legal representation of this command and the staff of
the same, General Echevarria will let you know your instructions of
incorporation in the Forces of the Defenders of the National Right,
which embody the real principles of Homeland and Liberty, represented by
the puritante forces of the Liberal Party. At the same time he
will give you instructions which we will develop in activity of
hostility against the invaders of our country.
This occasion
serves me to send you the most effusive and cordial salutations for the
glorious adventure which in these moments you represent before the
majesty of the homeland, the Party and our loyal coreligionists, the
same as before the gesture of the Race. Accept my congratulations
and may history take notice of you, accenting your names in its glorious
pages, immortalizing you as real and abnegated patriots. At
the same time you may rest assured that with due formalities I will make
known your incorporation to your Army by a general order.

Remembered Sir
Remembered Sir:
I spoke with my
mother and it pleases me to say that she showed no contrariness.
She herself told my father and he also answered satisfactorily.
Now you will permit me to say that if you really love me despite my
poverty, my humility and all my defects, and I believe later you will
not repent having made me your wife, you can present yourself to my
parents, certain that their answer will be according to our desires.
