Major -------.

Tell General Echevarria to give you the men that he can spare because last night the Yankees reached Sapotillal.  I am sorry that you did not take greater action to look for those aviators.  If you do not feel disposed I will wait for you at Maradiaga's outpost.

General ------, Camp No. 6.

General --------.

I have already received notice from the boys and they say that they did not attack at 7 as ordered because they were in search of some people they had told them about.  They got there at 7 in the morning and at that time the battle began and it lasted only four hours.  We had no casualties, only one slightly wounded in the leg.  I have already given orders to reconcentrate here for rest.  Send me the paper I sent for you to copy, the manifesto where we say that only to a Liberal government will we surrender our arms.  I have an idea and I want to take advantage of it.

Rivera, Abraham

Bocay, 30 Oct. 1927.

My dear Abraham

[GN note:  'This is in English, the rest is in Spanish']:

I received your little letter by Felipe, in which you tell me to send him in a boat on the Bodega of Culi by Nov. 10 and today Bastard and Felipe got hold of me by surprise and said they wanted to go and work some with you first and I have no big boat but am telling them that I will go get one if I can secure Willie Gordon's and send it later.  I could return from Jinotega up till Aug. 25, I was well received by friends there but did almost no work because Tilba Crivan's place was so bad.

All your family in Jinotega were well, only the baby M. Luisa was a little sick but not seriously.  I send four letters by Bastard, complied with all my errands, Rafael was then in Jinotega, big and fat.  Cayetano has gone to the interior to get his supplies, Antonio was well.  Paula, mother of the Rizos, died.  Things are always the same, the last news I had everthing was quiet in the interior only Segovia is always the same.

My child's godmother and the children were well.  I am alone here as I had to send Mike to Gulke's Lumber, Pio and all, as I am very busy, perhaps I can buy salt in the Cape.

Well, Abraham, excuse this short letter, and when the Sumus arrive where you are, if in case you are coming with people and plenty of cargo, I think it will be well to send this back now to take Willy's boat from Limnabum, while one is arriving at Bodega.  If I do not arrive by the 12th to 18th perhaps I will not call.  Take care of yourself, Abraham, and look out, it is better to be a coward like me in these places, we are old now.

Affectionately,

/s/ Frenchie Webster

To Colonel ------.

I send Lieut. Abraham Garcia to receive the arms that I requested from the General.  My men are sufficient, but I would like for you to lend me a few to conduct the arms to this rendezvous.  Receive many regards from your friend and all the family.

The individual who asks for the conference is English and he says he is coming from the King of England and he wants to treat with matters which will be for the good of the country.  I beg you to think of this and I will arrive today.

1 November 1927.  Sandino to General Manuel Echevarria on the Captured US Flag  (b).

27.11.01

Sandino

Echevarria, Manuel  [b]

General --------:

7.5 feet long, 3 wide, 4.5 feet long, 4 red and 3 white on the blue field of 48 stars. Blue square of 3 ft. by 2 feet 4 inches. We conserve as a trophy of the battle of Las Cruces a flag of the great nation of the US of NA, which was grabbed by one of our brave heroes from the hands of a Yankee, at the moment when said Yankee was fleeing shamefully through the bushes of our mountains. The flag is composed of three colors, red, white, and blue. It measures 7.5 feet long by 4.5 wide. It has six white bars and 7 red, but the six white ones are 3 long and 3 short: the red ones are 3 long and 4 short. On the blue field there are 48 stars. General Echevarria: I do not believe you need to be so minute for that, but I do it so that you may have sufficient data.

1 November 1927.  Sandino to General Manuel Echevarria  (c).

27.11.01

Sandino

Echevarria, Manuel  [c]

General --------:

I am sending you this letter with a paper that came to us from Honduras and I want you to take this opportunity to write something for that Republic for which I commission you.  I will type our organization so that when it is done it may be signed by all and be published over there.  Make the answer and let that man know that I have noted in a book everything that happens in our column from the first day we rose up in arms and thus everything that our enemies say against us will be without strength.  And if he can, let him come or any other newspaper man, come and we will give him a copy.

There are communications that may serve for history and other things that are impressive, the same as many things that will make them laugh.  I inform you that Moncada has no power among the humble populace and only the drunkards accompany him, and Colonel Rivera of Santa Cruz tells me that many want us to declare our candidacy because all the populace of the country is with us.  We cannot do that now, but naturally it fills us with satisfaction to have the populace recognize who is their friend and who is their enemy.

General -------.

In respect to the bombs you heard, it is nothing because I have 120 men surrounding Ciudad Sandino to see, if we can take some of the cargoes that the Machos bring from Ocotal.  The majority of these men are from Sabana Grande to Calpules [---] and the other part is around Nataso or at the North of the town.  Those shots today must be the men from (Rempajon) Rempajon who [----] are going out to bring the capture that will be made from the Machos.  Those from Rempujon must have tried bombs and because of that they only fired two and not three.

Invite all those women who can grind.  If they do not want to come of their own will oblige them with force, and there is a corn field there where you can send them to get some corn to make tortillas and send them here because I have more than a hundred men who have not eaten, and in the future I will find means to help all the people who help us.  Now it a necessity that we help one another.

General ----------:

I send you those papers so that you man be informed of what is in them and I also want you to answer for me and give this in my name to the filth of Ramirez.  That Ramirez is a coward, who humbled himself with shamelessness I never thought of.  That the scratch on the arm he got when he fell from the wall and they did not kill him because I ordered my boys to respect his life the same as Tellez's.  That since he told the invaders of the proximity of Forces representing the National Honor, may the homeland curse him, and that the blood and lives of my patriot soldiers that were lost there fall on him like an eternal salt, and from today believe that he will not live long because my boys have sworn to kill him and thus rid themselves of the pain of the death of the Patriot Colonel Rufo Antonio Marin and that one deserved the title of Colonel not he who is a coward who knelt and kissed the feet of my soldiers.
