Méndez, La Mojada.
Dear Friend:
I arrived at your post desiring to talk with you
to communicate to you the good news given by the
General who says to us to have a good resolution
to attack the machos if we have a chance to
surprise them. The Juez de Mesta of Barillal
with six bombs and a few rifles attacked 160
machos and caused them four casualties and some
wounded, defeating the rest. You know that with
courage everything is possible. The combat of
the 1st of the current month was won by our
forces and the enemy was defeated entirely,
leaving more than 50 dead outside of the
wounded. We took a large amount of ammunition,
machine guns and 600 bombs of the kind they use
from them. We had only two men wounded but their
wounds are slight thanks to God. I think that
our columns fought today, but I am not sure; the
Jefes think so, but the columns have not
reported anything, we await details. I greet you
and your companions,
Patria y Libertad
/s/ Major Francisco Morán
