Subject:   Patrol Report

1.     I received verbal command from the Commander of the District to destroy the Camp of the bandit Pedro González: Judge of Mesta and one of Sandino’s Lieutenants who committed raids in the hamlets of this district, stealing livestock and grains to provide for the bandit army.

2.     I left Quilali at 1830 on May 26 in the direction of Loma Chata, the place where the aforementioned Camp was located.

At 1230 the civilian I brought along told me we had arrived.

I made the men of my patrol surround the house and I, accompanied by Cabo Blas García #2124 and with great precaution went to enter the house at the same time a man was racing out. My men fired at him, killing him. I entered the house. I shined light with a flashlight and saw two women sitting on the floor. Upon looking closer, I noticed that a lump covered by a rag moved behind their backs. I saw that it was a man at the same time he leapt up and won the door. I fired my gun at him, giving him a shot in the back.

He continued running with a stumble. The Raso Reyes Mauro [Reyes, Mauricio] #3743 fired his Thompson at him, at the same time he made his way into the underbrush that was five yards from the house. I went to the place where he had entered and found a backpack full of correspondence and a considerable trail of blood; which makes me assume he was mortally wounded and that he has died.

We could not find the corpse of the first man killed, said be to Jacinto González, a cousin of Pedro, and Lieutenant, responsible for the correspondence meant for distribution to Sandino’s men.

I then went to the house to Eufracio González, a recognized bandit and captured him.

3.     I returned to Quilali at 0930 on the 27th.

4.     The patrol consisted of 15 men and a civilian guide.

The men were:

5. The conduct of the patrol was excellent.

6. By most reports we have obtained, Pedro Gonzalez was one of Sandino’s most important men in this area. He was a type of Director of Communications.

1.     Recibí orden verbal del Comandante del Distrito para ir a destruir el Campamento del bandolero Pedro González: Juez de Mesta y Teniente de Sandino, que hacia sus correrías en los caseríos de este Distrito, robando ganado y granos para mantener el ejército Bandolero.

2.     Salí de Quilali a las 1830 del 26 de Mayo en dirección de Loma Chata, lugar donde existía el referido Campamento.

A las 1230 el Civil que llevaba me dijo que habíamos llegado.

Hice que los hombres de mi patrulla rodearan la casa y yo acompañado del Cabo Blas García #2124 y con muchas precauciones me dirigí a entrar a la casa al mismo tiempo que salía hombre en Carrera. Mis hombres dispararon contra el, matándolo. Entré en la casa. Hice luz con una lámpara de mano y vi a dos mujeres sentadas en el suelo. Fijándome mejor, note que un bulto cubierto con un trapo se movía detrás de sus espaldas. Vi que era un hombre, al mismo tiempo que daba un salto y ganaba la puerta. Dispare mi revolver contra el, dándole en la espalda un balazo.

Siguió corriendo dando traspiés. El Raso Reyez Mauro [Mauricio Reyes] #3743 disparó su Thompson contra él, al mismo tiempo que penetraba al monte que estaba como a cinco yardas de la casa. Me dirigí al lugar donde había penetrado y encontré una mochila llena de correspondencia y un considerable reguero de sangre; lo que me hace suponer que iba mortalmente herido y que haya muerto.

No pudimos buscar el cadáver del primer hombre muerto, el dijo ser el de Jacinto González, primo de Pedro, y Teniente, encargado de la correspondencia para repartírsela a los hombres de Sandino.

Después me dirigí a la casa a Eufracio González, bandolero reconocido y lo capture.

3.     Regresé a Quilali a las 0930 del 27.

4.     La patrulla se componía de 15 hombres y un civil de Guía.

6. Por mas informes que hemos obtenido, Pedro González era uno de los hombres mas importantes de Sandino en esta zona. Era una especie de Director de Comunicaciones.
