INTELLIGENCE REPORT
Hermenegildo Gutierres, a Jefe de Canton
of Yali was captured by a group of
bandits numbering fifteen under the
command of Rosalio Chavarria on the
eighteenth of April. He was forced to
carry cargo and was take to close to
Bateli, to Pavona of Yali, Pantasma,
Pena Blanca and Corolerra where he made
his escape. He states that they joined
Altamirano at La Pita and that He
(Altamirano) had a force of three
hundred men but actually had only thirty
with him. He states that Altamirano had
on a white striped shirt, black trousers
and high boots. He wore a forty-five
pistol, a cutacha and was on foot. He
states that Altamirano is a tall heavy
set men with black hair streaked with
gray and has a long mustache. The
bandits engaged in no contacts as they
always ran to the mountains when they
heard the Guardia were near. He states
that the men in the Chavarria group were
armed with ten rifles and five cutachas
and each one had but a few rounds of
ammunition. The only thing this group
did was to rob the people and state that
they were going to free the country.
